Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school as we look forward to another amazing year of learning and growing here at Applegate School. Ms. Harms and I have spent the summer planning and preparing to welcome back students and staff. As always, there are many exciting things happening here at Applegate School and below you will find a great deal of useful information, descriptions of events, and a list of important dates for the Fall. We look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks at some of the great programs and events we have planned for the Fall.

Important Applegate Information


School Hours - Just a reminder when dropping off and picking up students, our school hours are as follows:

  • Doors open at 8:10 am and school starts promptly at 8:20 am.

  • Dismissal time is 2:55 pm, with walkers dismissed first while buses are loading.


Drop-Off and Pick-Up procedures -

Below is a bulleted list of important details regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures. Cars are not permitted into the parking lot between 8:00 am – 8:30 am and between 2:35 pm – 3:05 pm. ONLY school district vehicles are permitted to drop-off/pick-up students in this area.


AM ARRIVAL PROCEDURES:

  • Students should not arrive to school before 8:10 am. - supervision is not available before that time.

  • When dropping off students in the morning PLEASE PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD IN THE “STUDENT DROP-OFF” LANE ALONG THE CURB.  THIS IS A “DROP” AND “GO” ZONE ONLY. Staff will be available to supervise students as they enter the building.

  • When being dropped off, students are to exit the car from the passenger side only adjacent to the sidewalk. If you feel it is necessary to get out and assist your child out of the car, please park on Sherwood Drive and walk your child to the drop-off area where staff will supervise your child’s arrival.

  • Students arriving at school after 8:20 am are to report to the office. Parents must escort students to the office to sign in and students must obtain a late pass for admission to class.

PM DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

Walkers are dismissed at 2:55. Please be prompt for student pick up time to allow the buses to depart on time.

  • We will follow the same procedures for afternoon dismissal. Please pull forward in the “Student Pick-Up” Lane. Please adhere to all traffic rules.

  • This is a pick-up zone only, parents must remain in their cars and pull all the way forward in the pick up lane.

  • Students being picked up before regular dismissal time must be signed out from the main office.


Back to School Night - Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 20 and plan on joining us for Applegate School’s Back to School Night at 7pm. This wonderful evening offers an important opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher, see the classroom, and hear about all of the wonderful experiences and expectations the new school year holds for your child.


PTO News

The Applegate PTO is a great way to get involved, meet other parents, and support our school programs. PTO meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month (unless a holiday or vacation falls on that date, and then it is the following Monday). All meetings start at 7:30 pm and are held in the media Center.


Paperless PTO - The paperless PTO continues to be the best resource for everything PTO related. Receive text alerts and reminders about important events and much more. Other highlights include:

Book Fair - The first PTO sponsored Book Fair of the year is scheduled for October 17-19. This is a great opportunity to support the PTO while also picking out some great books for your child. A schedule will be provided informing you of the date and time your child’s class will visit the Book Fair. Family Night is scheduled for Friday, October 14.


Bagel Sales -- This year the PTO will be sponsoring a bagel sale once a month. Keep your eyes on the school calendar for the dates throughout the year. The first one of the year is scheduled for Friday, September 16 . $2.00 is the cost to purchase a bagel (plain, cream cheese or butter) and juice/water.
